How To Make Sauerkraut

A super easy way to make sauerkraut. A healthy fermented food that is fantastic for gut health!

This is a very simple and basic recipe for sauerkraut, but you can add shredded carrots and ginger if you like. I know some people that add hot peppers to it. Experiment and make a flavour that you love!

Cabbage is high in calcium and has a good amount of iron in it. I have included a list of health benefits for sauerkraut below.

This video shows me making sauerkraut with white (green) cabbage but I also love to make it with purple cabbage.

The purple cabbage is actually healthier as the deeper (purple) pigmentation in the purple cabbage indicates a rich supply of anthocyanins, which can help lower your risk of cancer, heart disease, macular degeneration and many other diseases.


Sauerkraut contains high levels of fiber and significant levels of Vitamins A, C, K and B vitamins. 

It is a good source of iron, manganese, copper, sodium, magnesium and calcium.
